Harlem Hellfighters standing at attention, Northern France, 1917
This is a black-and-white photograph of a group of African-American infantry soldiers from 1917. They are all in uniform, with their rifles, and are either standing at attention or at least in a similar position. The are arranged shoulder-to-shoulder in a straight line one man deep. To the right side of the screen, the men are the closest to the camera. To the left, the line stretches into the distance at a slight angle. They are standing in what appears to be an empty field.
