Bell X-5's revolutionary "swing wing" technology

The historic Bell X-5 aircraft that first employed the revolutionary swing wing technology to good effect in the early 1950s. This technology also called as the 'Variable sweep- swing' technology is employing a set of wings which are capable of swinging back to its original position on air in order to change the aircraft's shape as per requirement.

Later a number of successful designs were introduced during the period from 1940 to 1970, but the Bell X-5 aircraft still remains as the pioneer when it comes to this innovative technology.
