Suggestions for a 52 history books in a year challenge.

Forgive me if this has already been asked, but a quick search didn't bring up much.

I've seen the Reccomennded Reading List that r/history has put together. It's a monster list that I'd one day like to say ive read in its entirety. From a newcomers perspective however it's very daunting, and hard to choose where to start.

This year I've decided to take the 52 in 52 challenge, where I read at least one book a week for the whole year.

What I'm looking for is your recommendations on what 52 history books I should read to go from being relatively inept with regard to history knowledge, to a good understanding of a wide range of subjects.

I know that narrowing all of history down to 52 books is a huge ask, but I feel like this is the place to do just that.
