The Sundance Channel is clearly speeding up “The Princess Bride” – just so they can squeeze in a few more commercials. Classic film ruined.
Years ago in a broadcast magazine I saw an ad for a device that would do exactly this: speed up the playback so stations could schedule one or two more spots per half-hour. To a station in a large market this is a real revenue generator, but to those of us that can tell even when the sync is off -we can easily notice when actors voices are sped up just a hair – this totally ruins the film experience. Voices don’t sound right (higher pitch) – entire scenes lose their timing and an art form is edited for that sake of a few dollars. Fuck them.
