Were there any big organized crime figures in America, in the 20th century, who got away with it and retired wealthy and peacefully?
I am not only asking about traditional organized crime, i.e. Italian/Sicilian/whatever (although I am interested in that too). I am more interested in knowing who walked off with a big pile of money, somehow avoided or negotiated their way out of prosecution and/or murder by their associates, and got to keep the money and live in peace.
I've always wondered about the criminals who got away with it, and why we don't hear more of their stories. I imagine the reasons we don't hear more about them are the same reasons they got away with it?
