Why did we stop using the Periscope Rifle?

Why did we stop using the Periscope Rifle?

In case you didn't know, back in WWI we had a rifle mechanism where we could attach a rifle to two mirrors, the mirrors would reflect like a periscope so that soldiers could fire at a soldier without ever showing a part of their body to the other side. It wasn't the most accurate thing in the world, but towards the end of the war we started making some progress. I'm wondering, why did we stop using these? I feel like they could have multiple uses in today's world, especially if we could come up with a more portable version. So, please, why did we phase them out?
